The Competition
There's one thing the Copa do Brasil does that no other Brazilian competition quite matches: it pits Flamengo against a lower-division side in the very first round. And that's exactly what makes the tournament special — any club from any state, from the lower leagues to Série A, enters the draw with the same trophy as the goal.
This knockout format creates a completely different kind of bet from the Brasileirão. In a points-based league, the favorites tend to assert themselves over time. In the Copa, a single off day, a goal conceded in the dying minutes or a penalty is all it takes to turn everything around. That unpredictability is exactly what makes the odds so compelling and the 888poker leaned into that by offering over 80 markets per match, including some specific to knockout-stage play.
One of the most popular bets at 888poker during the Copa do Brasil is simply "will the match go to penalties?". That possibility — which doesn't exist in the Brasileirão — completely changes the live betting dynamic. If you're watching a game that's level at 80 minutes, with both sides playing cautiously and neither wanting to concede away from home, the odds on that market start looking more and more attractive — and 888poker updates those markets in real time throughout every match.
The two-legged format also opens up series markets — who advances on aggregate — which are a great alternative when you want to avoid the odds swings of a single match. If you believe Palmeiras will go through even after losing the first leg by one goal at home, a bet on "Palmeiras to advance" may come with better odds than a straight match result.
